DRAWLAB: Sunday Drawing Club

Drawing sessions for adults and children 11yrs+

An informal drawing club for adults and children over 11, to practice different drawing approaches and techniques, using monochrome materials. There will be a particular drawing focus for each session: working on observational drawing from still life set ups on some weeks and drawing a clothed life model on others. All drawing materials are provided - paper, charcoal, graphite pencils, chalk, erasers etc. - but participants are welcome to bring their own wet or dry materials and specialist papers to use, if preferred.

Time: 3:30 - 5:30pm

Dates: 16/1; 23/1; 30/1; 6/2; (half term break); 27/2; 6/3; 13/3; 20/3

These sessions are suitable for all levels of experience, with plenty of input from the tutor to the group as a whole, and also to the individual. At the end of the sessions, there will be discussions of the drawings to develop skills of objective analysis in a supportive group.

The sessions seek to build confidence in creating a drawn image through experimentation, and to encourage an awareness of the benefits of observational drawing: of its capacity to develop creativity, and to strengthen problem-solving and critical thinking skills. The overall focus is to engage with the process of drawing as a way of looking and thinking, and the enjoyment and progress that can be achieved with this approach.

Sessions can be booked either individually for £20 each, or 4 sessions can be paid for in advance for £72 - these reservations need not be taken on consecutive weeks, they can be spread across the whole 8 sessions, on a drop-in basis.

There are 10 spaces, so participants must confirm their attendance on the Friday before the Sunday session - payment can be made in advance, or by cash on the day.
